Mrs. Van Tassell's Fourth Grade Focus

Welcome to Room 221

The year ahead will be an exciting one for the students in Room 221. We will spend time reading and responding to nonfiction selections, working with larger multiplication and division problems, explore California's history, and learn about magnets, food chains, and rocks.  All students will reading daily books at just the right level and earn Accelerated Reader points.  Cursive will be used when writing paragraphs, letters, and journal entries.  This year, fourth graders will join Mr. Kehr and his assistants for P.E. once a week.  Of course, homework will come home Monday through Thursday each week. Homework will usually have spelling, grammar, and math. Nightly reading of about 30 minutes will be completed and noted on the weekly reading log.

 Supplies

A suggested supply list has been included in your registration pack.  I hope each child can bring 3 spiral notebooks, a pack of #2 pencils (preferably Ticonderoga), 2 three pronged folders, a box of tissues, and one box of thin markers.  This supplies may be sent in with your child.

Uniforms

Uniforms are to be worn daily.  Tops may be white or navy collared shirts or blouses and bottoms are to be navy pants, long shorts, skirts, or skorts.  Girls may wear navy jumpers or dresses.  Shoes are to be closed toe and worn with socks.  A jacket or sweater of any color may be worn.  Hats are recommended for recess but are to be removed upon entry into school.  If a child does not wear a uniform, he or she will be asked to go to the office during recess to change into one of the extra uniforms kept by the school.
